Paces are rounded to the nearest second. Splits use the unrounded pace, so multiplying a displayed pace may give a slightly different finish time.
Average pace is finish time divided by distance. The splits assume the same speed throughout. They are a calculation, not a prediction of fitness or a personalized race strategy.
For example, a 30-minute 5K averages 6:00 per kilometer, or about 9:39 per mile. Hills, conditions, and your experience can affect how you approach a race.
Divide your finish time by your race distance. A 30-minute 5K is 30 ÷ 5 = 6 minutes per kilometer. To find a finish time instead, multiply pace by distance. This calculator does both and converts between miles and kilometers.
Average 5:00 per kilometer, or approximately 8:03 per mile, to cover 5 kilometers in 25 minutes. Select 5K and enter your own goal time to calculate a different target.
Both average approximately 5:41 per kilometer or 9:09 per mile. The half marathon is 21.0975 km and the marathon is 42.195 km. Displayed paces are rounded; use the finish-time calculation for precise splits.
It calculates the time for a distance at a given pace. It does not predict whether you can maintain that pace. Your training, the course, and race-day conditions matter.
